BE WARNED:
I may not be the perfect person to write a fashion blog. Unlike most people, I'm small, and curvy. And I don't follow trends. I wear what makes me feel good and what fits my shape. High waisted pants, cropped bra shirts and short booty shorts? Nope. Not for me. I don't follow rules and I believe you shouldn't either. Magazines tell us what to wear, but in the end we decide what to wear, every single woman is a different shape and size. I'm not saying don't wear what magazines tell you to wear, they are a great guideline and place for ideas. I usually won't wear a current trend, it's more likely I'll wear what was "in" last year, or ten years ago, only because no one is wearing it anymore. I like to be different, I hate it when I see someone wearing something I have (it's bad, I know) but in the end, it makes me shop in different places than most people do. I will pay more for something that fits me fabulously and is good quality, because in the end, i'll get more wear out of it.
HOW I GOT STARTED:
A friend had once told me in 10th grade (she was a smart girl even then, and still dresses great today) that it doesn't matter what size you wear, it's how it fits you. And ever since then I threw caution to the wind, donated all of my old "label" shirts (sorry Abercrombie and BeBe, I hope you found good homes) and started playing around with style. It wasn't until after a dramatic break up around a year ago (in 2012) I really got into stocking my closet with many different kinds of style. I stopped wearing sweat pants in public my freshman year of college (I can't believe it's over 4 years ago in 2008!) because I was fed up with all the cute clothes I had in my closet that I wasn't wearing. Best move I've ever made. I don't scorn at people who wear sweat pants in public, it's every woman for herself, but as a rule, I just don't do it. Unless I'm going to the gym. Like every other girl, I love cute workout clothes, but what I don't love is wedgies or adjusting my shirt so it's not so tight that my sweat shows up everywhere. So I wear my old soccer shorts and a t-shirt to the gym. I save hundreds of dollars a year from not buying cute work-out clothes that I end up blowing on cute shoes and little dresses. Or coffee and sushi. Some of my biggest addictions.
Anyway, I'm getting off track. Back to clothes. I decided to start a fashion portion of the blog because my friends (usually) love my outfits, and my mother is pushing me to take fashion design classes at a community college. (I decided against it, the fashion world is too cutthroat for me) Hopefully my readers won't hate everything I write and photograph.

WARDROBE SUPPLY:
I currently work at a department store, and it's the biggest danger to my wallet but a good thing for my growing wardrobe. I get a first look at new things coming in, and I also wear things I buy to work. When a customer asks me where I got my outfit, I smile and direct them to the section I bought it in. Basically I'm a walking advertisement. It also helps me see what works and what doesn't work for me. When I get a ton of compliments on a new outfit, I take it in consideration and buy a few more similar outfits to mix and match. Don't be afraid to try new things, some of them may work! You never know unless you try.
I'm not sure how to define my style, sometimes I dress like a hippie, sometimes I dress like rock n' roll, and sometimes i'm just preppy. It's a little bit of everything. Like a lace mini dress with black tights, studded boots and bright colored skull bracelets mixed in with some braided bracelets. (Okay you got me, it's one of my favorite outfits) I am OBSESSED with Free People. That store is made for someone with an old soul like me. Comfort? Check. Does it fit? Check. Is it nice for my wallet? No, not at all. But I do keep EVERY. SINGLE. THING. I buy from there. So it's sort of wallet friendly since i'm basically keeping it for life. I also love Nordstrom, Lord and Taylor, H&M, Forever 21, Urban Outfitters, DSW and a ton of cute boutique-y stores I stumble across every once in a while. I rarely get lucky in Marshall's, Burlignton Coat Factory and TJ Maxx, but when I do, I feel like I hit gold. Consignment shops and thrift stores are also great, but usually I won't find anything that thrills me. They're probably better in wealthier towns and cities. I believe that the cheaper stores, like Forever 21 are great for current trends, like peplum and sparkly sequinned dresses, while the more pricey stores are better for a great pair of shoes, jacket or a must have forever kind of dress.

MEG'S RULES:
1. Have a t-shirt in every color, trust me, it's worth it. Make sure the shirt fits you fabulously and you love it. My favorite kind of shirt is a v-neck short sleeve shirt.
2. Have two pairs of fabulous go to jeans, one light, one dark that fits you perfectly. Skinny, boot-cut, flared, 70's style, whatever. Just something that you KNOW you look great in. Every woman is a different shape and size so every style of jeans will look great on different women. My go to brand? Joe's Jeans. I swear it was tailor made for short curvy girls like me.
3. Splurge on staple pieces, like a great pair of flats you'll wear year round (make sure they're comfortable!) or a good warm coat. Or even a great pair of jeans that fit you like a dream. Something that you know you'll have for years until it's basically a pair of rags. I won't splurge on shirts, but when it comes to jackets and an amazing pair of jeans, i'll be emptying my bank account for a perfect pair.
4. Like every other woman, I love heels. But I also believe you should have comfortable flats in every color (and I mean EVERY color, black, silver, gold, nude, a bright color, a pastel color...you get the point) Steve Madden sold at DSW makes a great, comfortable AND affordable pair in a rainbow of colors.
5. Having great style isn't just for super skinny people...curvy, tall, short, or plus sized women can have great style. It's all about confidence. I have seen a ton of women in every shape and size wear fabulous outfits and pull them off, because they are confident and know they look great. I've also seen some super confident people wear TERRIBLE outfits. But you know, every woman for herself, if she loves it, then she loves it. Just be sure to look in the mirror before you leave the house, wink wink.
